A treasure trove of Apps
There are so many applications out there that sometimes I get overwhelmed trying to find fun and educational applications for my 5 year old. After reading recommendations, and reviews I found a great resource for educational apps for preschoolers right through to older kids on a website called APPitic.
APPitic is a directory of apps for education by Apple Distinguished Educators (ADEs) to help you transform teaching and learning. These apps have been tested in a variety of different grade levels, instructional strategies and classroom settings. I think I stumbled on a goldmine for Apps because you are spoiled for choice. ;)

Follow George around the world as he challenges you to a series of fun building tasks. Build as fast as possible, capture your model with your iPhone/iPod camera and get scored on your building skills.
I can’t wait to get my hands on Life of George. I wonder if they sell it in Kuwait.

Best reason to get the new iPhone 4s for parents
Looking for a reason to get yourself a 4S even though there’s technically nothing wrong with that iPhone 4 you swore you’d use forever only 14 short months ago?
Well, it’s your lucky day. Thanks to Evoz, you’ve got all the excuse you need.
The free Evoz app turns your iPhone into the most advanced baby monitoring device ever invented. Just download the app, place your old phone in baby’s room and use your swish new model to listen in—from anywhere in the world with a signal. Too busy to keep listening? No worries, the system will call, text or email you when your baby has been crying for 30 seconds, 2 minutes, 5 minutes or 8 minutes (not sure how fast we would receive them – need to test it out). There’s even a data tracker that analyzes crying and sleep patterns—what more reason do you need?

Lady bird classics – bringing back childhood memories
“Ladybird Classic Me Books is an app of pure nostalgic joy, offering a treasure trove of golden childhood memories.” I couldn’t have said it better. Some of my favorite childhood stories are available on this application and while playing around with it I couldn’t help but smile. My kids are very familiar with some of the classics but having them on the iPad were we can record our own narration, sound and characters voices is just brilliant!
When you purchase the application you automatically get The Zoo book. You then have the option of purchasing more lady bird classic at a reasonable price.
Read.
Me Books brings the picture book app experience back to reading and telling stories. We’ve added nothing to the books themselves, just a new way to bottle the creativity and imagination they inspire.
Listen.
Classic stories are brought to life with charming narration from well known voices along with enchanting sound effects. Simply touch the words and pictures to hear them.
Record.
We all know you tell the best stories and do the best voices so Me Books lets you do just that. Add narration, record individual words to help new readers or use the pictures to craft your own tale.
Play!
Playing with books is a brilliant way for children to develop their creativity, language and literacy. Me Books allows them to express themselves which isn’t just important, it’s a downright hoot.

MeeGenius, bringing books to life
MeeGenius is a virtual bookstore with a wide selection of childhood favorites. They have just launched a free application that allows you to read all your favorite books such as the Three Little Pigs, The Boy Who Cried Wolf and The little Mermaid on your iPhone or iPad. There are some great features in the application such as word highlighting and audio playback so your kids can read along as well. One feature that is cool is the personalization option. You can digitally change the characters names to your little one’s. Imagine her surprise when she hears The Little Mermaid called Sarah instead of April. The books are beautifully illustrated with clear and simple audio, and are very reasonably priced. This application is a must specially with the summer holiday just around the corner.
